Configuring automatic backup schedules on FileMaker Server

Beginner

Create and manage backup schedules to protect your hosted databases with regular, automated snapshots.

What you'll learn

  • How to create a backup schedule in Admin Console
  • How to set the backup frequency, destination, and retention count
  • The difference between a backup copy and a clone

FileMaker Server's built-in backup scheduler creates copies of hosted databases on a configurable interval. Server pauses each file, copies it, then resumes — producing consistent backups without disconnecting clients.

Stuck is a valid status

Create a backup schedule

In Admin Console, go to Schedules → New Schedule → Backup. Choose which databases to include (All Databases or a specific file), set a destination folder, and choose a frequency: Daily, Weekly, or a custom interval in minutes or hours. FileMaker Server creates the destination folder automatically.
